Sew and Sip … with a twist

For months, my friend-neighbour Adrienne and I had been talking about working together to offer something that combined her skills and passions with mine. Our two studios live next door to each other. While we’re turning our gaze inward and moving with the breath in mine, someone is getting measured up for their dream dress in hers. There was something beautiful about this inward-outward reflection-creation happening in the same(ish) space.

It was on Heritage Day in South Africa – 24 September – that she and I finally sat together to pin down and hem up the details of our collaboration – Sew & Sip … with a Twist. It’s a fun mash-up of her Sew & Sip sewing workshops and the body-breath work I teach in my yoga classes. I’ll be honest, when we had first started talking about this, we didn’t quite know how the two could be paired in a way that makes sense… but time and patience brought us the answer and we’re very excited to share it with you!

Adrienne and I both share a kind of a sewing heritage. Before going on to study fashion design, she learned her early sewing skills from her mom, while I watched my mother cutting, sewing, and creating. We both grew up familiar with sewing machines, bobbins and thread – and the possibility of creating something useful and beautiful with what was once just a piece of cloth. This, I guess, was part of the fabric of our lives.

Sew, at the end of this month (see what I did there?), we invite you to join us as we teach and learn new skills. Our morning will start with 45 minutes of yoga, followed by making and sewing a very special eye pillow, and then a wind-down, wrapping up with some mingling and snacking in the garden.

You’ll go home with your own eye pillow – custom-made for your needs – and some tips on how to use it.
We’ll supply everything you need, and you don’t need any experience in either yoga or sewing to join us.
